Hull (New Craven Park) Greyhound Track

The Hull Kingston Rovers rugby league team moved to their new stadium situated on Poorhouse Lane off the Preston Road in April 1989. The greyhound operation followed and started on 11th November 1989.

The management team of John Kennedy and Roy Thickett had overseen the move and set up racing for Monday, Thursday and Saturday nights. The new circuit had a circumference of 415 metres and race distances of 290, 462, 490, 655 & 705 metres were used. The run to the first bend was 90 metres with an outside hare in operation and kennels for 72 greyhounds.

Prentice Racing came in as promoters during the nineties and speedway arrived in 1995 but both eventually petered out. The final management team was Gary Ince and David Gray who would then move with the greyhound racing when it switched to the Boulevard in 2003.

Both the speedway and greyhound tracks have been grassed over today and the pitch has been squared off and more recently a new £8 million North stand was built with education buildings ending the chances of either sport returning to the venue.
